Does shopping actually relieve stress?

Posted by admin | Latest News | Wednesday 11 February 2009 7:53 pm

It has been noted in numerous studies that many people seem to use shopping as a way to free themselves of their worldly stress. Stress being a major cause of medical issues and the root to some illnesses is something to be concerned about. Given the way human nature works we seem to worry about controllable or even uncontrollable events that occur in our lives in naturally. Even though we, on the most part, are unable to control these events or their outcomes we still try.

When all else fails and we find ourselves needing to deal with the facts many turn to shopping, food, and even unhealthy means of relief. Many of these techniques can be detrimental to your health and should be avoided.

Common signs of stress:

Physical signs:
• Headache
• Skin breakouts
• Muscle aches
• Back pain
• Constipation
• Shortness of breath
• Many others

Mental signs:
• Anxiety
• Guilt
• Forgetfulness
• Confusion
• Anger
• Depression
• Worrying
• Many others

Behavioral signs:
• Drug abuse
• Decreased productivity
• Crying spells
• Social withdrawal
• Many others

Healthy ways to avoid stress:
• Exercise
• Laughter
• Massages
• Breathe Deeply
• Mediation
• Herbal supplements
• Medicines

So to conclude some use shopping as a means of relieving stress while others drunk or drug. Either way if you’re feeling stressed and helpless see a medical physician who can assist you or refer you to the proper places for help.

Time to Knock Off the Knock Offs

Posted by admin | Fashion Tips,Shopping Tips | Monday 9 February 2009 12:05 am

In the past ten years we have seen arguably the greatest changes and improvements to global manufacturing. This has come forth in part by more efficient communication (email and web) as well as equipment and land capital investment and improvement, particularly in China. Goods are now made with faster response rate to the market, better quality, and in most cases less expensive. Along with the improvements, there has been an explosion of counterfeiting that has plagued the global retail market.

In this article I attempt to make the case that counterfeiting is not only an illegal practice but a very dangerous one that poses a risk not only for the consumer, but a potential risk for the nation as well. Sound too outrageous? I think not.

Risk to the consumer
Most major retailers and reputable companies hold a high standard quality control on their products. In the US a recall will greatly affect reputation and ultimately sales. CTL (consumer testing laboratories) tests products that come into the US for many toxins that are poisonous such as lead and formaldehyde. These tests are quite costly and require a strong product and quality management to execute efficiently. Most counterfeit goods are made with inferior goods, in some cases with left offer stock material that have failed these protocols. Yes! Failed meaning toxins have been found in the raw materials. Is the fake pair of brand name jeans worth the rash?

As you may have already guessed. Most of the “bootleggers” are not designers and do not know of the technical requirements that need to be monitored to make sure that seams don’t rip, colors don’t fade when washing, or even that the zippers work. I’ve gone out with some girlfriends with phony coach or Prada handbags and seen them struggle at the bar trying to open the darn zipper… I tell them to carry a wrench with that thing! If your going to buy a bag, at least get a designer inspired handbags it looks just as good and the quality meets standards.
Risk to the nation.

Not only are we in a bad economy, in which all companies are cutting back on R&D, Designs, Purchases, and yes even employees. When you purchase a bootleg bag. Not only will it scream fake when you can’t open the zipper of have a rash on your feet from fake Prada shoes. But you pay the thief who did not pay import taxes or income taxes, but you are eliminating a sale from the design innovator. Multiply this by the number of bootleg sales and companies (that pay taxes and employees) hurt.

In extreme cases, check out this business week article on dangerous fakes. How counterfeit, defective computer components from China are getting into U.S. warplanes and ships

Its time to knock off the knock offs.

Your guide to affordable designer inspired accessories

Posted by admin | Shopping Tips | Thursday 5 February 2009 9:41 am

The news is dismal. Job cuts, recession, foreclosures. People are buying less and the cycle spins faster and deeper. Does this mean you should avoid purchasing that baguette you’ve had your eyes on for a while now? Not necessarily. Granted purchasing an (authentic) Fendi  or Bottega Venetta handbag may not be a great move, especially if you are on a budget. However, there are many designer inspired designs available on the market that look just as fashion forward, trendy, and can certainly compete in quality.

First there are a number of handbags every lady should have in their closet to keep up with the latest trend and look great (and comfortable regardless of the occasion. These are clutches, satchels, baguettes, and a well designed hobo.

From my experience you can find any of these that look really great for well under $50 dollars. As a trend research analyst and buyer for www.50offbags.com I will give you a few pointers and tricks that will help you maximize you buy.

1. Design

  •  See a designer handbag you just love but can not afford? Surf the internet, visit a department store, or a local boutique. Identify the body (clutch, shoulder bag, and tote) most less expensive handbags are in fact designer inspired. They are similar in body material and color.

2. Quality

  • First examine the construction of the handbag. How are the seams and straps? Do they hold well when pulled (with reasonable resistance)? Test all zippers and clasps, the bag should open and close with ease, all should function properly. If you are purchasing online make sure the retailer offers a money back guarantee.

3. Price

  • There are many components that make up price. Style, cost of material, country of origin, and a number of other factors. From my personal experience I prefer not to pay more than $50.00 for a great looking and great quality handbag. Many websites offer perks such as free shipping, deep discounts, or other coupons, that make a real bargain easy to get.
  • Don’t let the economy let you down, with some savvy shopper know how you can stuff your closet with the latest and hottest trends at a mere fraction of the price of a designer label. Feed your addiction and get to surfing now!

    Tips on Accessorizing Your Outfit

Posted by admin | Fashion Tips | Monday 2 February 2009 9:55 pm

    What to wear?

    What to wear?

A perfect outfit is sometimes as impossible as hitting the lotto on one shot but it is possible.

I will go over some basic tips that will assist you in finding that perfect outfit for any occasion.

    Hit the streets

    • I find the best way to get ideas for a new outfit is to hit the streets and see what people are wearing around your neighborhood.
    • Look around and make note of what colors and trends are current to your area. Also do some window shopping.
    • Hit the local shops or mall and see what outfits they have in the windows. Many times this will give you a heads up on what colors are trendy and what style outfits are the most happening.

    Take a Seat

    • Now that you have your mind filled with outfit ideas its time to sit back and relax for a minute. Don’t just go inside the stores and buy everything you just put together in your head.
    • Take the back seat approach and figure out which outfits you saw that actually work and which ones just don’t make the cut off list.

    Check your Mail

    • Many times in the mail you will receive shopper books which can be a great place to find new outfits concept ideas.
    • Find what outfits work for you and see if you already own some of the items on the list.

    Add a Purse

    • So often I find that you can totally change your look by simply changing purses. Try some trendy or funky purses that you normally wouldn’t pair with a particular outfit. You may be happily surprised with the results!

    General Tips

    • Don’t try to over do it. Try to limit the use of colors. I recomend keeping an outfit down to 3 colors tops. By studying outfits put together by fashion experts you will start to look like one yourself.
    • So the time has come to put an outfit together. Don’t forget to try some of the suggestions above.
